Client

InVu by Jacobs

Summary

I led the User Experience team on the next generation platform for major program management insight

Problem statement

Today’s major construction programs are so complex they are becoming near impossible for humans to comprehend, requiring the creation of innovative data processing approaches and artificial intelligence techniques to help the programs of tomorrow deliver on time, and to budget.

Research methods

  1. 🧭 User interviews and surveys
  2. 🔍 Market research analysis
  3. 📱 Prototype usability testing
  4. 🛣 Customer journey mapping
  5. 👱 Multiple persona building
  6. 🖥 Information architecture

Without an established product yet in the market, we weren’t able to recruit any external Program Directors. Thankfully, the way Jacobs is set-up, there are multiple Subject Matter Experts in-house who would typically be seconded out to these types of major programs in similar roles. With their insight we were able to dive deep into the needs, motivations and frustrations within existing platforms.

Key focus areas

What are the challenges or barriers to ingesting and displaying complex datasets?

What’s important for a great platform experience now and in the future?

What are end user needs and desires that are not fulfilled by their current tech stacks?

Core customer needs

Understanding program performance – Users need to understand how their programs are performing over different timelines, as well as cross-cutting analysis of their work breakdown structures. This can be a very time-consuming and error prone exercise.

Decision-making based on intelligence – Users traditionally spend weeks and months contextualising the vast quantities of data produced from their various work streams. InVu can deliver this to them in hours and days, freeing up more time for users to spend on important operational duties.

Following our ongoing interviews and analysis, we were able to synthesise our findings and create themes, features, and user stories that helped to drive the product design and development narrative.
